It is with great pleasure that I inform you that in Delnice I am continuing the American investment that began a hundred years ago — I am launching the development of an innovative business-medical center for strategic and operational cooperation between employers, healthcare institutions and local communities. The focus is on international cooperation on labor, healthcare and social issues in West-East and North-South relations!

In this spirit, we are launching the Gorski Stammtisch, which is our way of connecting countries, tradition, and the future.

My personal and professional experience has convinced me that the synergy of natural beauty and medical expertise enables the transition from “a life of illness” to “living actively and fully with a disease.”

The unique geographical position of coniferous forests in close proximity to the sea creates a natural laboratory for the development of specialised recovery and rehabilitation programmes for people with asthma.

The Asthma Centre will also be a place of professional dialogue — a space where diverse approaches, ideas and business perspectives of modern pulmonology meet.

Top location for centuries

Through the American Business Center, we pay tribute to the EMIGRANTS OF AMERIKANSKA STREET, ESPECIALLY TO MY GREAT-GRANDFATHER NIKOLA KAJFEŠ, who sailed for America in 1926 and invested in Delnice with the money he earned in the Pittsburgh steel mills.

A century of entrepreneurship

The BUSINESS STORY BEGAN WITH MY GREAT-GRANDMOTHER ANTONIJA, who managed the American investment, a general store and a tavern in Amerikanska Street. Later, the premises hosted an insurance company, a video rental and a notary public office, making the building known even beyond the Gorski Kotar region.

The century-old Center of Medicine

The Gorski Medical Center draws on the medical tradition of the family and pays tribute to MY UNCLE, SURGEON DR. JOSIP KAJFEŠ.
Medicine began at Amerikanska 3 in Delnice before World War II with the work of DISTRICT EPIDEMIOLOGISTS, and in the 1960s there was a DENTAL OFFICE WITH AN X-RAY CABINET. The first PRIVATE PHYSICAL THERAPY office in Croatia opened in 1991. The FIRST MOBILE ELECTROTHERAPY in the patient’s home also started from Amerikanska 3. The headquarters of Hedel in 1993 was a precursor to the coordination of medical resources, especially in respiratory diseases. The FIRST PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP IN HEALTHCARE in Croatia is also significant. The ASMAL PATIENT ASSOCIATION also has its roots in Delnice. Multimedia and a magazine for asthmatics were also created here. The FIRST TELEMEDICINE CONSULTATIONS in Croatia began back in 1996, and the members of the organizing committee of the FIRST TELEMEDICINE CONFERENCE in Croatia also met here!

Up to now, we have presented OpinioNet and Opinion HUB to the professional audience at the EURIPA Rural Health Forum, European Primary Care Forum, and German Occupational Physicians Congress with great success.
